Job Title: Youth Coordinator
Job Summary:
The Gwaii Trust Board of Directors believe that in order to more effectively support the islands youth a Youth Coordinator needs to be integrated into the Gwaii Trust staffing team. The Youth coordinator would not source or run youth oriented programs, but rather provide relevant data for the board to base funding and program decisions upon.
The Youth Coordinator will demonstrate leadership within the island youth community, be able to gather, coordinate, evaluate and present data as requested. The Youth Coordinator must also be prepared able to fund raise within and outside the community engaging youth in those fundraising activities.
Initially this position is of a temporary nature culminating in a final report to the Gwaii Trust Board of Directors by June 30th 2011. Compensation will be based on a combination of education and experience.

Qualifications:
- A B. A. in related studies, Certificate of Child-Care Work or equivalent combination of comparable experience and education.
- Current First Aid and CPR Certificate
- Non violent Crisis Intervention Certificate
- Five years of full time, progressively responsible experience preferentially working with youth,
- Demonstrated success and evidence of ability to plan and execute an annual work plan.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Demonstrated supervision of professional level staff with leadership, management, and administrative skills and a proven ability to plan, manage and implement leadership or mentorship programs.
- Strong communication skills including above average ability to communicate and relate to both youth and management.
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends, to travel, and must have a valid class 5 driver’s license, and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Satisfactory Police records check including drivers abstract.
Additional Information:
This position is required to work in an environment possibly dealing with youth in emotional distress. An ability to react clearly and quickly in crisis situations and maintain control of the environment is essential.
Hours of Work:
As scheduled. Must be able to work all shifts, including weekends.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Facilitate, promote and assist in youth related fundraising initiatives;
- Seek out and follow through on all external funding opportunities.
- Foster and develop partnerships with Haida Gwaii Child and Family Services and like minded island agencies.
- Develop an inventory of youth related activities and relevant youth related programs on island
- Encourage and develop a strong link between Gwaii Trust the community’s youth and the public at large.
- Work to uncover roadblocks to success for community youth.
- Advise the Gwaii Trust Board on youth related issues and recommend strategies to enable the Board to provide opportunities for youth that will result in a more positive youth experience while preparing youth for an enriched adulthood.

- Demonstrates qualities of an effective team member by listening and responding in ways that facilitate effective teamwork.
- Has an understanding and knowledge of extended services and programs and how to access those services and programs.
- Knows when to ask for guidance / support from management.
- Maintains a good working relationship with client’s staff and organizations staff.
- Build healthy relationships with clients by demonstrating interest in the client, responding to client’s behaviour, building self-esteem and negotiating focused goals.
- Participate as a member in a team environment by promoting and maintaining professional conduct, resolving conflict, acknowledging individual differences and supporting team members
