Important Notice!
The Gwaii Trust Society has increased the Travel Assistance Program in the amount of $45,000.00.

Travel Assistance Program amendments in effect for the balance of the year are as follows:
1. Travel Assistance funding available for Youth and Elders
a) Youth is defined as individuals 18 and under
b) An elder is defined as an individual 60 and over

2. Youth will be permitted one funded chaperone for every ten youths

3. All other Travel Assistance program guidelines will remain as posted

Program Description

The Travel Assistance Program (TAP) was established to aid in off-island travel for educational purposes (school-sponsored trips), Arts, Cultural, Sports, Recreational clubs, Seniors Events. The Gwaii Trust will match individual funding of up to $250.00 per trip for approved off-island travel.

Must submit all supporting documentation and application two weeks prior to departure.

In addition student group travel for school events will be permitted outside the parameters of this policy with the following additional requirements:
No restriction on the number of travel times per student.
A maximum matching travel amount of up to $2,000.00 per group.


A final "trip report" prepared by the group or individual recounting the value and lessons learned from the experience.
The "goals to be achieved by travel activity" prepared and submitted with the application for travel assistance.

This program is eligible to fund travel costs for bringing “expertise” on-island for educational purposes, art, cultural, sports, recreation, seniors and special needs.

Guide to Applicants

The TAP will run from September 1st, to August 31st, each year. The funding available is $85,000.00 for the 2009/2010 fiscal year. All applications will be approved on a first-come, first-serve basis.

  • Each group, team, club or individual will be allowed a maximum of two (2) trips per year.
  • All applicants must include the following information in the submission to the TAP
  • Letter of Support/endorsement from recognized organization (club, team, or group);
  • Proof of matching funds
  • A detailed itinerary of trip;
  • Submit copies of the travel receipts and final account of the trip after the travel has taken place;
  • A detailed budget for the proposed of off-island trip or for bringing "expertise" on-island;
  • Must submit application two weeks prior departure

All applicants must provide copies of the travel receipts and final accounting of the trip after the travel has taken place. No future funding will be approved until all obligations are fulfilled for previous travel.

Individuals are allowed a maximum of two travel grants per year.
