Community Events Grant

Please Note:

  • There is no deadline for the Community Events Grant, it remains open until funds have been exhausted for the fiscal year.
  • Applications must be received no later than one month before the beginning of your project, unless otherwise specifically stated.

About the Community Events Grant:

  • The Community Events Grant provides up to $5,000.00 annually to each community* served by the Gwaii Trust Society’s mandate.  This grant may be applied for and utilized at the discretion of the individual community governance applicants, but applications must be of general benefit to community members at large.
  • This grant is intended to support and encourage each individual community, and the events held within their area throughout the year.  Partnerships and communication within the communities are encouraged, particularly where there are communities that host more than one annual event.
  • Gwaii Trust will allocate up to a maximum of $5,000.00 for each recognized community on Haida Gwaii.  You must contact your recognized community Governance**, not the Gwaii Trust, if you are interested in this grant; your recognized community Governance will be responsible for disbursement of the funds.  Only the recognized community Governance will apply for the funds available from the Community Events Grant.

*The Recognized Communities on Haida Gwaii are:

  • Old Massett
  • Graham Island North
  • Graham Island Central
  • Graham Island South
  • Skidegate
  • Area "E"
  • Council of the Haida Nation

**The Recognized Community Governance Bodies on Haida Gwaii are:

  • Old Masset.  Contact: Old Massett Village Council.
  • Graham Island North.  Contact: Village of Masset.
  • Graham Island Central/Tlell.  Contact: Village of Port Clements.
  • Graham Island South.  Contact: Village of Queen Charlotte.
  • Skidegate.  Contact: Skidegate Band Council.
  • Area “E.” Contact: Sandspit Office.
  • Council of the Haida Nation.  Contact: Council of the Haida Nation.

Guide to Community Applicants:

  • Submit a letter of request to your recognized community governance.
  • Describe the purpose of the project.
  • Provide the budget of the project (cost quotes).
  • Timeline of the project.
  • Provide a letter of support from the community.
  • Provide a letter of approval from the respective Gwaii Trust Board Member.
  • Submit evaluation form, photos, and final deliverables from all applications.
  • Submit outstanding receipts or reports from the previous year.
  • The Gwaii Trust will fund this grant in a one-time payment totalling a maximum of $5,000.00 per community, and on a receipt basis where appropriate.  All final reports, photos, and evaluations from the applicants must be submitted to the Gwaii Trust Office.
  • All applications and associated support documentation submitted become the property of the Gwaii Trust, who may publish the said applications on their web site: www.gwaiitrust.com or may otherwise utilize their content as the Gwaii Trust sees fit.

Guide to Recognized Community Governance Bodies:

  • Forward a letter of request to access the funds.
  • Indicate where the funds will be used; include cost quotes.
  • Must be signed off by the respective Gwaii Trust Board Member, approving the submission.
  • Submit evaluation form, photos, and final deliverables from all applications.
  • Submit outstanding receipts or reports from the previous year.
  • The Gwaii Trust will fund this grant in a one-time payment totalling a maximum of $5,000.00 per community, and on a receipt basis where appropriate.All final reports, photos, and evaluations from the applicants must be submitted to the Gwaii Trust Office.
