This new program was created in 2014, and has been approved by the Gwaii Trust Board of Directors, to address the urgency in preserving the Haida language.
The programs intent is to focus on supporting local initiatives that demonstrate a clear, positive effective way of improving fluency, the transfer of knowledge, or active mentorship with Haida language specific outcomes.Ideally, applications should include the recognition of all three Haida dialects, and/or a collaboration between local language authorities.
The Gwaii Trust Board of Directors desires that this grant incorporates the spirit of collaboration, with measurable outcomes, in keeping this vital link to our past alive.
This grant supports all applications that focus on improving the possibility of perpetuating and revitalizing the Haida language, on Haida Gwaii.

Grant available to Xaad Kil and Skidegate Haida Immersion Only.
Equity Requirement: 50%.
Keys tests: Merit and Need.
Applicants must have working knowledge and experience of Haida language.
Preference to projects that incorporate a collaborative effort involving all three Haida dialects.
Preference will be given to existing language grants.
Projects that demonstrate a technology component are encouraged.
Core funding as a component of the application is acceptable.
Administrative costs 10% maximum (but not if the persons administrative of a project is a paid element of the person’s employment within the organization applying).
Facilitators cost maximum $500 per day.
Letter of support (preferably 2 – from unrelated parties).
Cost quotes from all suppliers and other verifiable expenses.
Letters confirming all other income sources.
Meet at least one Constitutional Goal and Objective of the Gwaii Trust.
Clear project process description of all aspects of the project from start to finish – including final evaluation.
All applications and associated support documentation submitted become the property of the Gwaii Trust, who may publish the said applications on their web site: www.gwaiitrust.com or may otherwise utilize their content as the Gwaii Trust sees fit.
